Thanks Tamara for the suggestion about the Mr Goscinny & Mr Sempe books. They won't be known to many Australians but they've been well loved in 26 languages! Hope you find some of the books in the library Emily (you should). Good reading! I sent a query out to the internet land for recommendations for our next book, and a colleague from the weteach group forum pointed me here. Thankyou for the effort that you have gone to compiling this list - I shall print it out and keep it in the library bag!Emilyhttp://www.playtalklearn.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9200808769555430311.post-51711096291717820582011-10-03T16:01:38.124+11:002011-10-03T16:01:38.124+11:00Just wanted to share another series my relunctant ...Just wanted to share another series my relunctant reading son loves (and so do I!) I just love this post and the warnings you offer.

I become quite irritated when I'm told of parents who shun picture books in favour of chapter books for their young children to 'speed-up' the development of their literacy/reading skills. It really is a pet hate of mine.

Even when children show signs that they are ready to read more sophisticated texts I try to remind parents that they are still children.

I think you've covered the topic brilliantly, outlining the benefits but also highlighting the need for a balance.

Thanks. Will be sharing with my readers.

JackieJackiehttp://www.mylittlebookcase.com.aunoreply@blogger.com
